Oh come on. Dropping those mechanics are annoying, but Gamefreak isn’t oblivious. From what I can tell, it’s to make sure each generation stays unique so people will continue to play older games.
They put all that work into 800+ animations, they clearly wanted to use it for something. But my New3DS chugs when I try to pet a snorlax, I doubt they could fit a following companion into the game.
